A LONG TERM VIEW

Developing and commercializing an industry leading product is rarely a project that can be done in less than several years. It often takes many years to fully realize the value of the intellectual property that is developed in the start up phase of a project.

Not all projects that enter the start up phase will necessarily progress further.

Those projects that do, tend to produce rewards over the very long term and become part of the infrastructure of an entire industry.

START UP PHASE

Before getting involved in developing or investing in the commercialization of a software application, we seek first to attain an initial customer to test drive and prove the viability of the concept.  In this manner, all of our projects are defined by customer demand rather than a theoretical understanding of needs.

The initial customer will help us to establish the basic functionality requirements of the software needed in their industry.

This phase can take somewhere between 6 months to 1 year of investment and development.

EARLY COMMERCIALISATION STAGE

After the initial customer has an application which meets their basic requirements, we will seek an introduction to a second and third market participant. Their differing viewpoints and needs will further highlight generic industry requirements.

This phase can take between 1 and 2 years.

ESTABLISHMENT OF MARKET SHARE

Once a reference base of 3 to 4 customers has been established, we start focusing on becoming a market leader and acquiring more customers to define a market share.

In this phase, the development of the software application will move beyond the basics and start to introduce new business benefits not available from other vendor’s products.

Acquisition of a meaningful and influential market share can take between 2 to 5 years.

LEVERAGE OF MARKET SHARE

We then seek to leverage the network of existing users in the industry, to form collaborative groups and seek new opportunities for working together.  In this phase, significant industry efficiencies can be gained by a percentage of the industry sharing a common IT platform.

As this is an on-going process, there is no timeframe associated to this phase.

RE-INVEST AND REGENERATE

We hold a long term view on our investments in the IT Infrastructure of the industries we work with. A strong platform that continues to meet the long term needs of a given industry will periodically require complete overhaul and regeneration to remain competitive.

As technologies evolve, our application will need to be re-written, leveraging the advantages of the latest technology of the time.
